The RDPRU promotes a multidisciplinary approach and has occasionally cooperated with researchers from the whole wide range of Social Sciences (economists, economic geographers, regional scientists, political scientists, sociologists, statisticians, etc.). Furthermore, it is particularly interested in international comparative analysis. The RDPRU is very experienced in project coordination and has participated in many international research projects.

He is a Professor at the the Department of Economics, University of Macedonia. Head of the RDPRU. During 2015-2019 he was Secretary General for Strategic and Private Investments, Ministry of Economy and Development. He has been involved in research relating to industrial location, regional incentives, the spatial aspects of subcontracting, the economic implications of peripheral universities on their local community. rural development, rural entrepreneurship, foreign direct investment and the delocalisation of industry and in particular the economic implications of the opening of Greek companies to the CEEC's and economic consequences of international migration. He has extensive experience in project co-ordination, since he has been the co-ordinator of two European research projects i.e. FERP (FP5 project) and MOVE (FP6 project). Moreover, he has also participated in numerous Greek and international research projects (see Research Activities).
Prof. Labrianidis has published widely in Greek journals (City and Region, Review of Rural Studies, Review of the Social Research, Review of Political Science, Contemporary Issues, Annals of Political Economy, Social Science Tribune, Topos, etc) and international journals (Antipode, Environment and Planning A’ and C’, International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, European Planning Studies, The Journal of Entrepreneurship, International Boundaries Research Unit, Sociologia Ruralis, Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development, Higher Education Policy, Raumforschung und Raumordnung, Cyprus Journal of Economics, Modern Greek Studies, etc). Lois Labrianidis has been a member of the editorial of the journal European Urban and Regional Studies from 2008-2013.

He has been a member of the RDPRU since it was first established and has participated in numerous research projects dealing with issues such as the opening of Greek enterprises in Central and Eastern European countries, local/regional development plans and international trade.
Artemis Kourtesis, Ph.D, Economist

He was born in 1963, he is married and has two sons. He holds a Ph.D. in Economic Sciences (University of Macedonia) and apart from a researcher, he is also the general director of a construction company based in Thessaloniki. From 1989 until 2003, he worked at the European Commission in Brussels, in the field of structural policies and Research & Technology policy, as a scientific coordinator in the EU project on social and economic research. He cooperates with the RDPRU by participating in projects relevant to regional development, European integration, the European R&T policy, the finances of innovation and knowledge, while he has also published articles on the abovementioned subjects.

She graduated from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Aristotle University 2010, and also holds a master’s degree in Economics from the Department of Economics, University of Macedonia 2012. Her main research interests are dynamics of education, migration and regional development theories. Currently, she is working as a Research Assistant in RDPRU, University of Macedonia.

He graduated from the Department of Economics, University of Macedonia, in 2005, where he also pursued his postgraduate studies and obtained a master’s degree in International Economics, Department of International and European Economic and Political Studies in 2008. Theodosis Sykas, Ph.D, Economist

He is an economist and researcher of the RDPRU. He graduated from the Department of Accounting & Finance, University of Macedonia, while he holds an MSc and Ph.D. from the Department of Economics of the same University. His main research interests are migration theories and the migrative phenomenon in the Mediterranean, while he has also conducted research on foreign direct investments in developing countries.

He graduated from the Department of International & European Studies, University of Macedonia in 2001, where he also pursued his postgraduate studies and obtained a master’s degree in Business Administration in 2004. Currently, he is a PhD candidate in the Department of Planning and Regional Development at the Univeristy of Thessaly, working on the spatial and economic aspects of Tourism Global Value Chains in the case of Greek mass tourism destinations. His wider research interests concern tourist development, migration, firms' internationalization and restructuring processes.

She graduated from the Department of International & European Studies, University of Macedonia and pursued her postgraduate studies on European Politics at the Université Libre (Brussels). She is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies, a researcher and member of the RDPRU. Her main research interests lie in the development of social networks in the Balkans and the delocalisation of Greek enterprises to neighbouring countriesShe is a political scientist and researcher at the Rural Development and Policy Research Unit of the University of Macedonia. Her main interest lies in the social networks that have developed in the Balkan region, while she has conducted research in the delocalisation of the labour intensive firms in Europe.
